So Germany, China and France all love it (well, their Governments do) and now NASA is building a 10, 240 processor Linux box for simulating missions and weather models.

Batman: Dead End
While browsing a site with absolutely nothing to do with Batman I came across this short film. I'm impressed at what, in actual fact, has little to do with Batman.
Batmobile "unveiled".. literally
You can see it being shown here. Personally I couldn't get it to play but that will just be the proxies here. I like it. It's not the usual batwinged sleekness but a military vehicle with "mods".
Makes sense if Mr Wayne and co. build these vehicles that he uses them - at least in the early days.

Doom 3 is GOLD
I need not place any links here as before you've finished it you'll no doubt be bored by the fuss... however, Gamespy and Slashdot have stories and links.
Release is August 6th in the US. We'll get it some time around then too. Can I wait? Yeah... pretty much.

What to read, see and do...
Well there is a lot going on at the moment. New films to see, websites to visit and places to be. Recently I've found the following kinda interesting in one way or another:
Films:
Spiderman 2 - This really needs little introduction (unless you live at "1 UnderRock Road"). But suffice to say it's going to rock. Totally. (How teenage did that sound?
Alien Vs Predator - I'm unsure whether this film will suck royally or be a great hack/slash/vapourise film. Everything I read points to this being a poor film - but the trailer looks quite cool.
Of course the gaping holes in the story line (Aliens on our Earth today.. hmm) might detract somewhat but we'll see soon enough!
The Terminal - I like Tom Hanks. He's always been a good bet when it comes to acting. This little gem looks to be very clever. Basically Tom is a foreigner entering the US. While he was enroute his country had a military cou. Thus Tom is stuck in "The Terminal"... a bit of a love story but why not.
The Incredibles - Pixar's next CG flick. I'll reserve judgement on this one for now...
I-Robot - Will Smith in a film based on a series of short stories (Isaac Asimov). This, again, could work and then again, it may not. Will doesn't come to mind as the ideal lead here (to me) as it doesn't really feel like a comedy.. and I associate most stuff Will does with that. Sure, Enemy of the State was good but still. One to watch!
All the above links are to Apple Trailers.
Sites:
TV Adverts - Always fun.. seeing old and interesting adverts all over again (some are bad, mind).
More TV adverts - Same as above.. hell, Google the rest you lazy so and so!
Books:
Patricia Cornwell - The Scarpetta novels - I'm six books in now (From Potter's Field) and really enjoying them. I'm told they go down hill later on but so far so good. If you like forensic medicene and the odd murder you'll like this ;)
Harry Potter - You've seen the films; read the books. Go on then!
Games:
Star Wars: Galaxies - I'm now six months in to playing this (if not longer!) and loving it. Soon to be Bounty Hunter and then maybe a Jedi if I can survice the trials, it's a clever and absorbing way to spend your free time (should you have any). Go have a nose. Now. Well?
Halo 2 - About to hit the XBox (November 9th) and ruin our Christmas. Friends? What are they? :)
Half Life 2 - Well this may, or may not be released. Ever. But, if it is then once again we will lose reality and friendships over a computer game. Geeky? Hell yes. Bring it ON!
Doom 3 - Not sure on this one. Could be great as it's a remake. Could be pants (as the videos suggest). If it is just eye candy it will occupy my hard disk for about 10 minutes.

Stupid joke.. but hella funny!
Sean Connery gets a call from his agent one day.
The agent says, "Sean, I've got you a job, starts tomorrow, early. You'll have to be there for 10-ish".
Sean furrows his brow and says, "Tennish? But I don't even have a
racket."

Biorhythms... real or not?
Well if these 2 graphs are anything to go by I'd have to say, not. They clearly contradict one another (try Googling it and do it yourself, every one is different!).
Here are the graphs:
Plus, from research on my part I can tell you that physically and mentally they don't read right either. Last Friday I was on form - today I feel the complete opposite.
It's probably completely "in the mind" so to speak. ;)

Rain drops keep falling...
Well the last few days have seen some pretty heavy rain. It's been on the national news; it's been in the papers.
While I'll admit it's been bad I cannot understand the mentality of people on the roads (yeah you can see where this is heading).
This is England. It's not Miami, nor is it sunny Spain. It's England. We usually have rain around 9 months of the year and so you'd think we'd be used to it. Well clearly we aren't.
I take precautions on the roads. I try to keep my speed down when the weather is not "ideal" and generally extend the gap between myself and the car in front. Now you can see the problems this causes. If there is a gap it means it needs to be filled. Cars cut me up and then slow down - forcing me to do the same (and this is where traffic jams happen), and those that don't, try to do 110mph in the outside lane. Black and White. On or Off. Simple eh?
Recently all I've noticed is that if rain starts to fall then people are immediately incapable of driving. The gas pedal becomes something new and not to be used. Fog lights turn on and speed on a national limit slows to 40mph. Granted the rain was so bad one night that 40mph seemed high but that was an exception to the rule!
What am I saying? Learn to drive! It isn't all that hard.
And to that 90 year old bloke straddling lanes last night at 55mph... **********!!!!

New addition to the "family"...
HERE is another car. Another Calibra. Another Turbo.
Few details right now but more will follow (she just arrived!). :D
She's the spitting image of my first car.. and so I feel obliged to fix her up! (soz)

Some progress on the engine today - and more part arrivals. With any luck most of the engine will be rebuilt in a fortnight. With a small miracle even the bottom half could be back in the car then too! :)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
I ventured out and saw this last night with my mum. Having seen the previous two I was expecting more of the same and was pleasantly surprised. The film moved much quicker than the last film and was, in my opinion, darker too.
The special effects were to a point where I didn't question them (especially Buckbeak) and the level of acting was espeically high.
Michael Gambon also fits the part of Dumbledore much better too - he's slightly mad; exactly how he should be (taking nothing from Richard Harris' performance!).
For those not in the know (how could you not be?) this film follow's the escape of Sirius Black from Azkabar prison; Harry being his target. The film introduces Professor Lupin as the new Dark Arts teacher and the Dementors (the guards of Azkaban) and their constant hating on Harry (well done too).
I won't go in to it any more (not that I have) but it's certainly worth seeing! Well recommended! :)

See if you can beat this website. I managed it only once and the reference was pretty obsure (Tom Quinn from Spooks!). But pretty much everyone else I chose it got!

Raytracing for the masses
Following on from the Quake story here are a couple of sites you might like:
POVRAY - A free raytracing program. Has been around so long now I can't even remember when I first used it! I do know I had it on the Amiga many years ago.. it's still going strong!
Blender - Not a raytracer but certainly an excellent 3D modeller...
Have a play - I'd recommend Blender since I'm using it ;)

Quake 3 gets Raytraced!
Oh yes! My favourite past time for days gone by has now found it's way in to gaming with this Quake 3 demo. Not a bad effort considering it needed 20 AMD 1800XP machines to get running. I don't foresee this being the norm any time soon due to the overheads but one day perhaps...

A busy, busy weekend!
This weekend I was mostly...
... Well Saturday was an early rise (around 7am), getting Simon up and packing the car ready for the journey ahead. First we drove from Portsmouth to Birmingham; taking in the sights, sounds and complete lack of traffic as we raced to the Motor Show Live at the National Exhibition Centre. A 2 hour drive saw us arrive in good stead and ready to be "wowed" by new and expensive metal.
Simon (Notts way) met up with us and we took in the show.
To be honest I'd have to say that the show was the weakest I've been to yet. There simply wasn't much there (and I mean that in terms of both actual cars and new stuff) but I did manage to sample the new Vauxhall Monaro! To say I'm impressed is an understatement.... but I can't have one :(
We left around 3pm and headed across country to Wellingborough (Santa Pod). Again traffic was non-existant and the journey quick. Simon and I stocked up at Tescos (usual starting point) and made our way to the camp site where we met up with the ClubCalibra crew and enjoyed a few drinks and some munch before retiring (although at this point I must say most people did not.. car engines and music continued throughout the night!).
God only knows what time I first woke but it was early!! I know I was actually up and about around 6:30am... and already the sun beat down on me.. more on that later.
The show started around 9am and the day was spent watching Cally dragsters and touring cars cane the 1/4 mile, all the while the sun hated on us. And it rained.. without clouds. Hmm.
2:30pm we left and had the same empty roads on the way home (which I'm told was the not the case later on!).
Now I'm knackered.
I'll get the Motor Show pics up soonish... now I rest ;)

OAP gets driving ban while NOT driving..
Yep, I'm not kidding!
A speed trap was set up and had netted around £12k that morning... the OAP in question put a sign up warning drivers and HE got arrested and charged. Complete madness
